Mr. Versatile

Conceit is a fog that envelops a man’s real character beyond his own recognition. It weakens his native ability and strengthens all his inconsistencies.”

– Napoleon Hill

I don’t know whether to be annoyed or flattered as I was just nominated for my third blogging award. I know without a doubt that I am extremely grateful, and hope it at least gives this blog a chance to inject a dose of positivity into a few more people’s days.

For this honor, I thank Dan of the “hurdlestohappiness” blog. Go check this kid out, he is an aspiring author and a college undergraduate. Definitely has his head screwed on better than I did at that age. In fact, reading his “gravatar“, he sounds like the second coming of Tony Robbins! Like I said, go check him out!

The Rules of the “Versatile Blogger Award” are as follows:

  1. Nominate 15 fellow bloggers.
  2. Inform the bloggers of their nomination.
  3. Share 7 random things about yourself.
  4. Thank the blogger who nominated you.
  5. Add the “Versatile Blogger Award” pic to your blog post.

Refusing to enter the fog known as conceit, I humbly share the following 7 random things about myself….

  1. I was captain of my High School baseball team, but missed half my senior season after being suspended from school for drinking in class.
  2. Totaled my first 2 vehicles – a ’94 Mustang GT (was my mother’s at the time, and I was a Junior in High School), and an all-black, chromed-out ’01 Lincoln LS (this resulted in my 1st DUI).
  3. My first visit to the ER was a result of a liquor bottle (Cognac, to be exact), was broken over my head. I was concussed and had a laceration that wouldn’t stop bleeding. I didn’t lose consciousness until I was already being attended to at the hospital – due to loss of blood. This also happens to be the closest I’ve ever been to death, come to think of it!
  4. I have 3 siblings – all sisters. Yes, I’m the only boy. One younger sister.
  5. Both sets of my grandparents have been married for over 60 years.
  6. I have no relatives North of the Mason-Dixon line. Being a Southerner has not made me ignorant – I have been graced with manners, a good taste in music, and an appreciation for kind of humidity known only to the Tidewater region of Virginia.
  7. I am a licensed RN, not currently practicing, unsure if I ever will again (by choice), though I reserve the right to return to practice one day if I so desire.

OK, if that list isn’t enough to insure against conceit, I will share a single photo of my sisters and myself, circa 1992-ish:

That is me and my younger sister in the front, and my two older sisters in the middle of the back. 🙂

Now to bestow this award to 15 others. I apologize in advance to some of you, as I probably nominated you last week for another award! Nevertheless…

Thanks again, and I hope you take the time to check out some of these blogs I’ve nominated. They all have a unique spin, but generally share one thing in common: the commitment to personal growth.

  3. Thanks my friend. Congratulations! Jeesh. Good job man! I like the life facts. Very honest. I appreciate that. A boy in the midst of lots of girls. Oh. My. 🙂

  4. Wow. Thank you so much! I just looked at all these other blogs and they are so wonderful!! 🙂

  5. Thank you for thinking of me… so does this mean I should follow these rules as well??

    • Well thank you for your blog!

I’m new to this blogging thing too…so I had to do a google search or 2 to figure out what it meant…

Basically its just a chance to let your blog be recognized, and to recognize other blogs as well. Like a chance at free advertising, to connect with people with similar interests.

      You’ve already won!!

Whether you choose to accept it, or to pass it on/follow the rules is entirely up to you. It can be a pain in the ass, but its nice to give a shout-out to others too.

      Thanks, & enjoy!

  6. Congrats and thank you! What exactly is a Versatile Blogger award?

  7. http://versatilebloggeraward.wordpress.com/about/

My understanding is its basically just a simple way to give encouragement/ recognition to other bloggers! Just a way to connect, say “thank you”, “i enjoy your blog”.

Helps others to connect to other blogs that share similar interests too.

Oh yeah…and its a nice ego massage! 🙂

  8. […] on my blog so I can address and thank everyone who has been so thoughtful, the following people:  Mr. Versatile, A Blogger in Turmoil, Warrior Poet, […]

  9. Your journey has been intense. I just read the “deciding to enjoy life” post. Damn boy, you were in jail? Holy cow! And drinking in class. Sneaky, but not sneaky enough … i suppose the liquor got the best of you and you THOUGHT you were being sneaky. Never thought of drinking in class (much too secretive). OK. so, re: Versatile Blogger … i guess i have that one from awhile ago. Would you feel too offended if i didn’t re-do the process! I appreciate your kind support … and that’s what these awards are (as you say) a way to encourage other bloggers to Blog, BUT, i already write about myself continuously and i nominate my same posse. I need to expand my reading — which i’m doing. It’s hard to keep up! OK, thanks again … and we’ll see you later! 🙂
